Jam Guidelines

To create a safe and fruitful dance space of mutuality

Arrive & Listen

  • Take time to settle physically and energetically into the space.

  • Listen deeply – to yourself, your partners, and the space.

Clothing & Safety

  • Wear long pants and shirts for skin coverage to avoid friction discomfort.

  • Remove jewellery or items that might catch on others.

  • Bring an extra shirt as tropical weather brings sweaty dances and it's nice to refresh.

  • Contact Improvisation involves physical risk. Stay within your skills and comfort, and take care of your safety.

  • Keep the floor for dancing; observe or rest from the sides.

Boundaries & Consent

  • Respect boundaries – it’s okay to say or hear “no” without explanation.

  • Practice reading non-verbal cues; ask for clarity if unsure.

  • Be mindful of how your energy and actions affect others in the space.

  • The focus of the practice is not sexual or romantic - please respect that in the space.

Support & Communication

  • If uncomfortable, talk to your partner, the facilitator, or an experienced dancer.

  • Observing is a valid way to learn and contribute to the jam’s energy.
