Focused Jams 2026
Focused Practice of Contact Improvisation
23 February - 6 March
23 March - 5 April
(Limited spots)
This proposal is for contact improvisation dancers to study through the dance itself, co-creating a field of curiosity, creativity and exchange. The jams also gather us as a community and create a platform to give attention to our values such as local connection, artistic expression and presence in nature.

Jamming
The core of this invitation is the practice of contact improvisation in JAM format.
“Contact Improvisation jams are leaderless practice environments in which dancers practice the dance form with whoever gathers-friends or strangers, old, young, experienced, novice.”
We propose 2 blocks of 2 weeks each to meet daily in a studio, with possibility for the practice to extend into the ocean, into nature, and into the creation of artistic projects.
Commitment is an important element in co-creating and maintaining a field of presence, care and mutual support; therefore we propose this invitation to dancers interested in committing to all sessions, and attending to the space in a focused manner. There are various other weekly jams available on the island for those looking for drop-in formats.
Jam warm-ups and instructions will be minimal, however jams will still be cared for by rotating facilitators, sharing their vision, energy and dance. This jam environment is intended for those with well-grounded experience in CI.

Beyond Dance
Art
We see contact improvisation as a powerful practice that connects us to intuition - therefore we also welcome and support the creation of different art projects by the dancers. Some may be shown in the dedicated performance nights, or take material form into exhibitions or paper publications. Creative projects may begin earlier, or last longer than the jams.
Building Bridges
We acknowledge that we are dancing in a specific environment with a cultural heritage and geo-political identity. We support engaging creatively with the space outside the dance floor and invite engagement and exchange with local communities. This will primarily happen through invitations to share skills in a local buddhist learning center for children.
Nature
An island is a unique geographical feature - here we might feel ourselves floating, far away from the rest of the world. For many visitors this place invites strong internal processes. The sea surrounds us on all sides, the beaches are hugged by soft warm waters. Beyond tarmac and buildings are beautiful jungles, rivers and huge stones. These are places that can restore us, and reawaken our senses to the natural world. Dance in water and presence in nature are both precious experiences here.

How to join?
Our vision is to co-create a focused practice space, where people share similar values, curiosity and dedication to the practice of contact improvisation. This jam environment has minimal facilitation and is intended for dancers with experience.
Additional invitations related to creative processes, community support, and presence in nature, are all optional, however we consider them to be deeply enriching to the experience of being here.
We will review the applications and confirm the status via email. Upon approval of your application we will request payment to secure your spot.
Next to bringing your body, spirit and passion for dance we ask for a contribution of 1800 THB per week of jamming. This covers space rental and organisational expenses.
Food & accommodation are not included in the program - we added information here to support you navigate the island. If you need extra support feel free to reach out.
