Pillars of the retreat
Practice
Contact Improvisation will be the core practice, featuring open jams and structured scores each day. Open jams will provide a space for free movement and expression, while scores will offer a suggested theme. We will also offer Authentic Movement spaces.
Nature
We are fortunate to host this retreat in a beautiful jungle site, situated at the base of a mountain with a waterfall. This exceptional environment enables us to embrace nature as a significant resource for grounding and inspiration.
Silence
Verbal communication takes much of our time and energy. This week, we encourage embracing silence as a way to focus our expression into movement and self-discovery. Set aside social distractions and devices to foster a deeper sense of presence and concentration.
Contemplation
To reduce the noise, calm the mind and come back home to our bodies, we invite to weave contemplative practices throughout the retreat. Giving dedicated space for meditation, nature immersion, journalling and more.
The Venue
The Source Koh Phangan - A gem in the heart of the jungle

We will be dancing in a 130m2 wooden floor space with 180 degree sunset view over the treetops of this tropical island. Listening to the birds and voices of the jungle.
Food & Accomodation

The Retreat includes three vegetarian meals per day and continuous provision of tea, coffee and water.

There are two options for accommodation for the 7 nights:
You can choose to share one of the beautiful jungle bungalows (two types), or opt for a spot in our camping style dormitory.

Participation
Due to the silent nature of the retreat, there won’t be explanations or verbal guidance for jams or practices. Therefore, we need everyone applying to have a basic understanding and experience of the principles that inform the practices.

Next to a minimum level of experience in the forms we are also looking for emotional maturity and self-responsibility. Respectful conduct in the space is of utmost importance to create a safe environment for everyone.

To register, please complete the application form. The organisers will read the applications carefully and you will receive an email regarding your application status.
Our Team
We are a group of four enthusiastic contact dancers, meditators and movers with a love for nature, and deep immersive containers. We felt inspired to create the space for a silent retreat of CI in Koh Phangan first and foremost because we really wanted to join it. And I hope you feel inspired to join us in it :)

How do I get to The Source (the venue of the retreat)? You should consider Thong Sala pier in Koh Phangan as your final destination - from there we can help you coordinate a ride. Buses and trains are available from Bangkok and Chiang Mai. Trains leave Bangkok several times daily, the journey time is about 12 hours. Sleeping booths are available for some services. Leaving the train at Surat Thani, the transfer by coach or taxi from Surat Thani station to Donsak pier takes about one hour. From Donsak, the ferry journey takes three hours to Koh Phangan. Flights from Bangkok (BKK) to Koh Samui (USM) The nearest airport to Koh Phangan is Koh Samui. Between Bangkok and Koh Samui, many daily services are run by Bangkok Airways. Flight time is about 50 minutes. A connecting ferry takes you from Koh Samui to Koh Phangan (30 min). A cheaper airport to fly to is Surat Thani on the Thai mainland, and from there take a ferry direct to Koh Phangan (3 hours). Air Asia flies from Bangkok (DMK) to Surat Thani daily, flying time is about 50 minutes. The transfer from Surat Thani Airport (URT) to Donsak ferry port is by coach or taxi and takes about 90 minutes. Tickets can be bought at the airport. At Donsak, you transfer to the Raja Ferry to Koh Phangan, which takes three hours. We recommend that you book the ferry and transfer to Koh Phangan when you arrive in the airport at the booths in the arrival lounge. What time and date should I book my flight? We can't wait to welcome you to Thailand! We recommend booking your flight to Bangkok or Koh Samui at least a few days before the retreat begins so that you have time to arrive and get settled before arrival at The Source. Registration opens at 12pm.

What to pack?We trust that you are experienced in your dancing and living that you know :) Some useful items: water bottle, insect repellent (preferably natural), ear plugs. Note that given the tropical climate you might need more clothes to dance in than usual - we recommend having one or two shirts per jam to change. We will have a laundry service for a small fee available at the venue that you can make use of not to run out.

What about the weather and mosquitos?Thailand in January is generally quite hot and humid. Where we are located, we have the mountain breeze and lots of tree coverage, meaning that you do not feel the heat so much as next to the beach, for example. We also have way less mosquitos, especially in our shala, where there are almost none. That being said, you should prepare yourself for an experience where you are interacting with the nature of the island, with geckos and insects being part of life in the jungle. Natural repellents and appropriate clothing are enough to keep you comfortable.
